Your First Visit
If you are attending a zazen meeting for the first time, it is strongly recommended that you arrive 20 minutes early.
Our room at the University can be pretty tricky to find in Mac Hall, so please allow a bit of wandering time if you attend there for the first time. Little Tea Temple is easier to find.
Arriving early allows us to introduce you to the forms we observe and to offer you 10 minutes or so of zazen (meditation) instruction.
You will want to wear loose comfortable clothing, preferably long sleeves and long pants in dark or muted colours. Please avoid brightly-coloured clothing, printed slogans, or zany patterns, all of which could be distracting to other participants.
If you stay for the entire evening session at the University (Tuesday evening), we are usually finished putting everything away and are out the door, heading home by 9:15 pm. If your time is tighter, feel free to slip out after the more formal portion of our evening (sitting, chanting etc.) which we finish by 8:00 pm.
We look forward to meeting you.
Donations
All of our weekly activities are entirely supported by donations. A donation box is provided at each of our events. In keeping with Buddhist tradition, donations are entirely voluntary. For those who do choose to support our activities, a donation of $10 or more for each meeting attended would be appropriate. Low-income people including students should carefully consider their own financial situations and not give beyond their means, or in some cases at all.
