Baizan Tim Sampson
Tim has been practicing in the Soto Zen tradition since 1994. He spent over 3 years as a resident at the San Francisco Zen Center, where he received the precepts (Jukai) in 1996. He has spent time in monasteries and other practice centers in Canada, the United States, England and Japan. In 2004, he received Shukke Tokudo (priest ordination) at Kirigayaji in Tokyo, Japan from Junyu Kuroda Roshi. Tim is a student of Zoketsu Norman Fischer, poet, leader of Everyday Zen, and former Abbot of San Francisco Zen Centre.
Murray McGillivray
Murray began Zen practice in 1974 at the age of 20. A former member of Roshi Philip Kapleau's Rochester Zen Center, he took lay precepts at Avatamsaka Monastery in 2007 and received Bodhisattva Precepts (Jukai) from Zoketsu Norman Fischer in 2010. Murray teaches English at the University of Calgary and is also a student of Everyday Zen.
